About XtraView

1. What is XtraView?
XtraView is a cost effective and flexible solution allowing you to link two XtraView capable DStv decoders (1110, HD PVR or SD PVR) at a cost of a single subscription, plus an access fee. XtraView allows you to increase the number of TV channels which can be viewed simultaneously in your home without having to pay an additional subscription.

The XtraView delivers a full dual view viewing experience – allowing access to two different channels on two different TVs at the same time! You get to watch a movie in the lounge, while the kids snuggle in bed with cartoons.

Interactive services (including TV Guide, SuperSport Active and Title Search) are available in two viewing environments and you can even have different Parental Control settings for each decoder.

3. How does XtraView work?
Basically, two decoders* are linked to work under a single subscription. Each decoder is independently connected to the satellite dish and each decoder has a smartcard. In the XtraView installation, one decoder is designated as the “primary” decoder and the other one is designated as the “secondary”. The decoders are linked by a cable that allows communication between them and the primary decoder sends a “heartbeat” to the secondary decoder via this cable. If the cable is removed or the “heartbeat” lost, the secondary decoder will lose video & audio until the cable is replaced or the “heartbeat” resumed. There is no impact to the primary decoder if the cable is disconnected. (* See available XtraView combos)

The introduction of the new DStv HD PVR (High Definition Personal Video Recorder) decoder has further revolutionised the television experience with lifelike viewing, sharper images, more vibrant colours and precision picture quality.

The HD PVR allows you to view one channel, while recording two other channels simultaneously. It also offers you the following benefits:

The HD PVR also introduces a new feature called “Favourite Channels”. If you select your favourite channels, you get the following :

* A personalised TV Guide, listing the schedules for just those channels.
* A personalised viewing environment (like the current bouquets on other decoders) which includes only your selected channels. This means that when scanning through the channels, you only see the channels you have selected, so no more hopping over unwanted or unavailable channels.
* A Favourite Channels Grid – similar to the existing channel grid, but listing only the channels you selected, making it easier to change between channels.
